Knowing God intimately

Truth is we have many Christians who know about God, but only a few know Him in a personal and intimate way. There is no higher or more exalted goal than knowing God in an intimate way as God reveals to us through Jeremiah, the prophet.

Jeremiah 9:23–24
23 Thus says the Lord:“Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;24 But let him who glories glory in this, THAT HE UNDERSTANDS AND KNOWS ME. . .

The word “know” as it’s used in Scripture typically implies INTIMACY. The word is used to describe sexual relations as seen in Genesis 4:1. So, you won’t know God in a personal and intimate way merely by reading, studying and hearing sermons about Him. You need to have the desire, passion and commitment to know God as a friend.
The early days of the prophet Samuel reveals to us that one can be dedicated to God, committed to his pastor and serve religiously in his church without knowing the Father in an intimate way.

1 Samuel 3:1-7
1 And the child SAMUEL MINISTERED UNTO THE LORD BEFORE ELI. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.2 And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;
3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;
4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.6 And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.7 NOW SAMUEL DID NOT YET KNOW THE LORD, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.

Samuel grew before God, ministered to Him under Eli, but didn’t have an intimate relationship with Him as indicated in verse 7. As result, Samuel couldn’t recognise God’s voice when He spoke to him the first time.
God speaks to His sons and daughters today, but many will never recognise His voice, promptings and leadings because there is no intimacy between them and the Father.
Many may also observe the manifestations of God’s power in their churches and among believers, but will struggle to trust God and depend on Him because they don’t know God’s ways for them to know Him in an intimate manner.
The people of Israel saw all the miracles and the works of God, but couldn’t enter into His rest because they didn’t know His ways for them to know Him like Moses– Exodus 33:9-13; Psalm 103:7. Hebrews 3:10.

The reason many Christians are misled and corrupted by deceitful ministers in the church is because they don’t know the Father. Those who develop an intimate relationship with the Father, would be spiritually strong to detect any exploitations, manipulations and empty deceits like the faithful Jews as revealed to Daniel.

Daniel 11:31-32
31 And forces shall be mustered by him, and they shall defile the sanctuary fortress; then they shall take away the daily sacrifices, and place there the abomination of desolation. 32 Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; BUT THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW THEIR GOD SHALL BE STRONG, AND CARRY OUT GREAT EXPLOITS (RESIST THE ENEMY).

Notice, God revealed to Daniel that those who shall be able to carry out exploits by resisting the forces that will attempt to corrupt them, and defile the temple and worship. Surely, they will be ones who know their God.
Now you can understand why we’re admonished to acquaint ourselves with God for us to experience His goodness in our lives.

Job 22:21

The uncertainties, anxieties, restlessness among believers is all because they don’t know God the Father. Believers will  always be at peace, and good things will come to them, if they develop an intimate relationship with God. God’s blessings, benefits, peace, joy, boldness and confidence flow out of our intimacy with Him.
David with all his experiences with God and intimate knowledge of Him, gave this advice to his son Solomon before his death:

1 Chronicles 28:9 (NLT)
9 “. . .Solomon, my son, LEARN TO KNOW THE GOD OF YOUR ANCESTORS INTIMATELY. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. David advised his son Solomon to LEARN TO ACQUAINT HIMSELF WITH GOD, KNOW HIM INTIMATELY.
Know and understand that one unique thing about the New Covenant is, we’re to know God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in a personal and intimate way, and not through a prophet, a minister or a group.

Hebrews 8:8–11
8 . . . “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make A NEW COVENANT with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— . . .  11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘KNOW THE LORD,’ FOR ALL SHALL KNOW ME, FROM THE LEAST OF THEM TO THE GREATEST OF THEM.

With the exception of Jesus, there shouldn’t be any mediator between you and the Father. FROM THE LEAST TO THE GREATEST, we all must know God intimately. The Father wants you to personally commune with Him, fellowship with Him, confide in Him and walk together with Him as a friend. LEARN TO KNOW GOD IN A PERSONAL AND INTIMATE WAY.
