Heb 11:33-35 KJV 33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens. 35 Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:
The book Hebrews 11 specifically deals with the results of faith in the life of people. In all the examples, we see that faith produced actions. Show me a man’s action and I can show you what his/her faith.
We use words such as “I trust my car to take me to my destination”, “I trust my car to hold me up”. Faith is a matter of trust. We sit confidently in our chair because we trust it won’t fail us. We have so much trust in physical things like the chair we on and even the vehicles we sit in daily but do not trust God and His word. Ours action towards God’s word and the things of God show the level of trust we have in Him. Throughout scriptures, we see how men and women demonstrated their faith by their actions.
Jas 2:18 KJV Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
Abraham trusted God enough to set out on a journey even though he had no idea where it will lead. He trusted God enough to offer his son as a sacrifice. Joshua trusted God so much, that he risk the lives of the people of Israel by marching undefended around the walls of Jericho seven times.
There is an old story I once heard a pastor narrate, a pastor asked his poor congratulation, “how many of you believe God can make you a million rich?” All hands went up. The he asked, “how many of you believe God can make you a million rich right now?” All hands were down. The congregation believed God could make them rich in the long term, hence never acted on their faith by raising their hands for a million dollar riches now.
Let’s not be deceived, Faith will always produce a corresponding action. Many people believe and trust in God, but their faith is not sufficient enough to change their lives because they never acted on it. Only active faith is transforming faith.
