UNBELEIF – THE LIMITATION OF MANY CHRISTIANS

I have heard great stories about Christians especially Men of God who availed themselves unto God to be used for His glory. I have also personally been around believers who are also making impact in this world through faith and belief in the Word of God. At the same time, I have also heard of and personally been around believers who are struggling in life, not to even talk of achieving their purposes in this life. One thing that has to be noted is that, they have all been tagged with Christianity but yet there is a thin line between these two groups, the line called “UNBELIEF”.

The main purpose for this article is to bring awareness to believers who seem to be struggling with both the cares of this world and those staggering to attain their God given purposes in life. Unbelief as defined in the Strong’s Greek 570 as “apistia”, which means unfaithfulness or distrust. This same word was used by Apostle Paul in his letter to the Hebrews. In the final verses of Hebrew 3:18-19 he made reference to the people of Israel during Moses’ time who failed to enter into the promise land, God’s rest which he had prepared for them but were not able to enter because of their unbelief or distrust in Him after seeing all that He God did for them in Egypt. Deuteronomy 1:19-35.
“And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.” Hebrew 3:18-19.

Upon reading the third chapter of the book of Hebrews, you will notice that Apostle Paul was trying to address the unbelieving attitude among the Jews, the cause of whatever seem to be happening among them, never the less this epistle was also written for our sakes, to caution us to desist from unbelieve.
It is very obvious that the reason for the failure of many believers is because even though we claim we believe in God, we don’t really do; our statements and faith is only words without viability and any real power, hence the predicaments most of us find ourselves in.
Just like the Israelites in the Old Testament, we mummer anytime time we are faced with the slight test or trouble, we waver in the sight of problems mostly because of our weak foundation in the Word of God. This is true because if the foundation is strong, it can stand against any wind of trial. I can boldly say that most of the things we go through are the fruits borne through unbelief.

Even though the Lord has made provisions for us to enter into His rest, we are not able to, because we act as our own blockage or barrier with unbelief. Instead of acting the Word or confessing the Word of God over the situation, we turn to rather start to reason out, think of humanly possible ways that we can use to overcome the situation. By so doing, confusion and fear sets in when we come to the realization that there is no easy or absolute solution out. Sometimes we feel it is too late, then we give up and allow fear to have its power over us, instead of encouraging ourselves in the Lord through prayer and fellowship in His Word.

But glory to God, there is a way out of all this, it is called the walk of faith, having a strong belief in God and in His Word, meditating and working the Word by confessing and acting it out each and every day of our lives. This will always bring us to the consciousness of the power and reality of the Word of God. One thing we need not to forget is that, the Christian walk is a walk of faith and one cannot live in it with the physical sight or emotions.

We need to allow the Word of God to have its place in our lives as Paul says in Romans 12:2. It doesn’t matter what happened in the past, if we allow the Word of God to renew our minds, we will overcome the state of unbelieve. This is a gradual process, but once we spend more time in the Word and His presence, we will be changed. Hallelujah.
Another thing that we also have to know is that, to be able to achieve our purposes in life without getting stacked in the wilderness of unbelieve and uncertainty, we need to have faith in the Word of God and this only comes through one source – Word of God.
Faith comes by hearing the Word of God over and over again. Staying in the Word will definitely send us far away from the sin of unbelief. It’s a sure way out of the wilderness and a ticket to the rest the Lord has prepared for us.

Finally, I want us to be conscious of the name we bear, “Believers of Christ”, what the Word of God says should be our very focus and we need to try to do our very best to walk according to it, and sure enough if we follow the leadings of the Holy Spirit we will be very effective. Everyone needs someone or something to believe in and in one way or the other if you don’t believe in the Almighty God and His Words, then you surely believe in something else.  Let’s stay focused and we shall surely obtain the promise.
Don’t be left in the wilderness because of unbelief, it is not worth your time.
